Trio leads Eagles at McDowell
ERIE – Brooke Messinger, Jocelyn Taydus and Naomi Swartzbaugh led impressive days for the Youngsville track and field teams at the McDowell Invitational on Saturday.
Messinger, in what was a very exciting race, edged Warren’s Naomi Hahn to win the 1600 and added another medal in the 3200 (11:48.63).
Taydus and Swartzbaugh, meanwhile, continued their success in the hurdle races. Taydus ran 17.24 in the 100s to finish third, while Swartzbaugh finished fifth in 17.42. They were reversed in the 300s, as Swartzbaugh came in fourth in 50.85 and Taydus sixth (52.54).
In addition, the 400 relay team finished eighth.
For the boys Aaron Morris finished seventh in the 110 hurdles (17.14).
The girls team championship was won by McDowell with 102 points and Meadville’s Emily Main was the lone 3-even individual winner, taking first in the 100 hurdles (16.04), 300 hurdles (49.99) and long jump (16-8).
The McDowell boys also claimed the team title with 110 points, while another Meadville athlete, Penn State football recruit Journey Brown had four firsts in the 100 (10.87), 200 (22.48), long jump (21-4 1/2) and also anchored the winning 4×100 relay team
