Sheffield came out on the losing end of a slugfest on Thursday, dropping a 22-9 decision to District 9 foe Johnsonburg.

Despite the loss, Mya Grubbs had a monster game for the Lady Wolverines. Grubbs tripled and blasted and homer, driving in five runs in the process.

“Mya had a good night,” said Sheffield coach Mark Maines. “Marissa Grubbs went the distance on the mound and struck out six, and added a triple herself.”

While Johnsonburg racked up 15 hits, it was some shoddy defense that did Sheffield in according to Maines.

“We just make too many miscues at the wrong times to be able to compete with any of the (District 9) teams this year.” Maines said. “We have been moving players around due to sickness and injury, but we will fight until the end and see what happens.”

Sheffield will travel to Kane for a doubleheader on Monday before visiting county rival Youngsville on Tuesday.
