Dragons earn a pair of wins over Franklin
On a cold but sunny day, the Warren track and field teams came away with a pair of wins over Franklin – the boys by a 99-35 score and the girls a tight victory, 74-66.
The boys won all but two events, one of which was the 4×100 where both teams got DQ’d.
Other than that, it was a dominant effort.
Ben Thomas won the 100 and long jump, with a time in the 100 of 11.36, while Blake Ristau eased to victories in the 1600 and 3200 and Kyle Adams was a 3-time winner in the 200, long jump and triple jump, going 41-7 1/2 in the triple.
Tristan Davis was also a 2-event winner in the high jump and javelin.
Troy Shattuck turned in an impressive time in the 800, winning in 2:04.16, while Beau Paris won the 400, Duke Lilja the 110 hurdles, Mitchell Bryant the 300 hurdles and Noah Becker the discus.
“We had a pretty good day at War Memorial Field today,” said Warren coach Kevin Dustin. “A lot of individual victories all over the place lead to a very strong win over Franklin. We were happy to see a lot of personal bests today and are gearing up for the championship push.”
For the girls, they swept the jumps, with Lydia Latimer winning the high jump (5-0), Myah Madril the triple jump and Trinity Wennberg the long jump.
On the track, Latimer took top honors in the 400, Michaela Lind the 800 and Naomi Hahn the 1600. The Lady Dragons took all the points in the 800, 1600 and two of the three spots in the 3200, minus first, where Savanna Carr, a state qualifier in cross country, edged Hahn.
Paige McCullough had three second place finishes in the 110 hurdles, triple jump and high jump, while Olivia Ashbaugh added seconds in the 100 and 200.
The 4×400 (Ashbaugh, Bri Ristau, Gabby Hahn, Lind) and 4×800 (Ristau, Lind, Kayla Giambrone, Naomi Hahn) both were victorious as well.
“Our jumpers had a great day today. Myah, Paige, and Trinity all had huge PRs and are improving at just the right time,” said Warren coach Elizabeth Beardsley. “As a whole team, we’re really getting excited for the final stretch of the season.’
Both teams return to action on Thursday, along with Youngsville, Eisenhower and Sheffield at War Memorial Field for the Warren County meet.
