District 10 track and field championships primer

The regular season has led the to this – the District 10 Track and Field championships.

SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio will once again play host, as the Olympic training facility that has held both the Big Ten and Big East championships in the past will welcome the best from D-10, with action getting underway at 10 a.m.

Eisenhower’s TerryLee Talasky and Warren’s Lydia Latimer boast top seeds and are returning state qualifiers, as is Warren’s Blake Ristau, but there are a whole host of other athletes ready to join them.

The top two finishers in Class 2A plus those that meet state qualifying standards move on to the state championships, with the champion and whoever meets state qualifying standards in an event moving on in Class 3A.

Class 2A Girls

The conversation starts with Talasky, a 2-time state qualifier who is the top seed in the 200 (26.14) and 400 (58.48) and the fourth seed in the 100 (12.64). Her prime competition in the 400 is Morgan Donatelli of Hickory (58.68), with no other girl seeded under one minute. She is tied with Michaela Rose of Lakeview for the top spot in the 200, with Yasmine Harden of Farrell third at 26.40. Harden is the top seed in the 100 at 12.0.

Her teammate, Delaney Nizzi, is seeded second in the 300 hurdles at 47.94, with Hickory’s Heather Grove the top seed (44.52) and Kendra Benton of Lakeview No. 3 (48.05). Nizzi is also seeded fourth in the long jump at 16-1 1/2, with Hickory’s Jillian Greenberg the top seed at 17-1 1/2.

Youngsville’s Brooke Messinger, meanwhile, is seeded highly in the 800, 1600 and 3200. She is No. 2 in the 3200 at 11:48.63, behind just Lilly Myers of Fairview (11:27.41) and just ahead of Hickory’s Dannah Javens (11:54). She is seeded third in the 1600 (5:29.6), behind Jordan Williams of Sharon (5:03.2) and Alyssa Boyd of Union City (5:20.11). She is also seeded 8th in the 800 (2:32.13).

Other Eisenhower, Youngsville seeds along with the top seed in that event.

Class 3A Girls

Latimer, the defending District 10 champion in the high jump, will look to repeat as a sophomore. She is the top seed at 5-3, with Ryann Brundagge of Corry checking in at 5-2. Latimer is also seeded third in the 400 at 1:02.54, with Meadville’s Elizabeth Adams the top seed at 1:00.51. She is also eighth in the long jump.

Naomi Hahn is fresh off setting a meet record at the Warren County Meet in the 1600, where she is seeded third at 5:24.24, behind Carlee Constable of Villa (5:14.49) and Franklin’s Savanna Carr. She is also seeded second in the 3200 at 11:33.97, behind just Constable at 11:16.88.

Jonah Samuelson for Eisenhower is seeded tied for second in the 110 hurdles (15.57) with Kobe Joseph of Sharpsville. Caleb Gagliardi of Hickory is the top seed at 15.06. Samuelson is seeded fourth in the 300 hurdles at 42.57 with Titusville Brady Corklin the top seed at 40.34.

Warren’s Kyle Adams is the top seed of any Dragon, seeded third in the triple jump at 42-2 1/2, with Meadville’s Austin Cottrell the No. 1 seed at 42-3 1/2.

Troy Shattuck is seeded fourth in the 400 at 51.68. Molek Walker of Grove City is the No. 1 seed at 48.90.
