Lady Dragons end season at PIAA championships

LEWISBURG – A terrific season for Lydia Latimer, Paige McCullough, Gabby Hahn and Cara Anderson came to an end at the PIAA Class 3A swimming championships at Bucknell University on Saturday and Sunday.

Action got underway on Saturday, with that quartet taking 22nd in the 200 medley realy with a time of 1:59.04. The Avon Grove team of Emma Brinton, Olivia Paoletti, Sydney Paglia and Sophie May winning with a time of 1:43.61, more than a full second faster than their seeded time.

Latimer followed that up on Saturday by taking 31st in the 50 freestyle, clocking in at 25.45. Gateway freshman Olivia Livingston set a state record, winning with a time of 22.83.

On Sunday, Latimer concluded her state meet by taking 29th in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:01.22. Caroline Famous of Conestoga beat the rest of the field by over a full second with a time of 53.63, almost two seconds faster than her seeded time.

McCullough, the school record holder in the 100 breaststroke, swam the event for the last time in her high school career, taking 31st in 1:08.54. Heather MacCausland of Downingtown East won with a time of 1:01.49.
