WCCS earns victory; Jamestown tops Tidioute

Tommy Jones led three players in double figures with 20 points as Warren County Christian School notched a 63-45 win over the Salamanca Home School Co-Op.

The Lions (9-6) jumped out to an 11-5 lead after one quarter and 30-16 advantage at halftime on senior night and never looked back.

“Our seniors really led the way,” said WCCS coach Tom Jones. “Tommy Jones and Josiah Poindexter played great games.”

Poindexter finished with 13 points, while Danny Jones added nine.

Coach Jones also noted the strong play of his freshman, Josh Jones and Ethan Kerr, the latter of whom was also in double figures with 13 points.

“We got a super strong effort from our freshmen,” he said. “Ethan Kerr knocked down his first three 3-pointers and Danny Jones did a great job running the offense and setting him up. Overall, it was a good team effort.”

The Lions now have a long layoff, returning to action in the New Penn Christian Conference Tournament on Feb. 17.

JAMESTOWN 51, TIDIOUTE 31

Twenty first-half turnovers proved to be too much to overcome for Tidioute, as they dropped a 51-31 decision to Jamestown (Pa.) on Saturday.

The Bulldogs played even with the Muskies in the second half, turning the ball over just six times.

“I think we just settled down a little bit,” said Tidioute coach Terry Cotterman. “They were a lot taller than us. They pressed us the whole game and got some turnovers early to get up on us.”

Jared Veasy had a strong game for Tidioute, posting a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds, while Patrick Shields pulled down eight boards.

Matthew Clark, a 6-5 senior, led Jamestown with 12 points.

The Bullodgs return to action today, hosting Union.
