WCCS boys drop thriller to Calvary
Despite a 66-61 setback to Calvary Baptist, Warren County Christian school coach Tom Jones couldn’t have been prouder of the way his team played.
Tommy Jones had 25 points for the Lions and Josiah Poindexter 15 for the Lions in the close loss.
“That’s the best game we’ve played all season,” coach Jones said. “That’s (Calvary) a very talented team. Tommy Jones, Josh Jones and Josiah Poindexter did a great job on the boards for us. Danny Jones did a great job of directing the offense. We had very few turnovers.”
The difference in the game turned out to be what coach Jones called ‘a three minute lapse’ late in the third quarter. Calvary outscored the Lions 20-8 in the period to take an 8-point lead that WCCS wasn’t quite able to come back from.
The coach also noted the strong play off the bench of Ethan Kerr and Stephen Brenner.
“Ethan Kerr scored 10 points which were huge and Stepehen Brenner was giving up five inches to their big guy and held him to four points,” noted Jones. “Standout defensive effort from him.”
WCCS returns to action on Tuesday at Faith Christian.
