Lions drop close battle with Bethel

A frantic fourth-quarter comeback attempt fell short for Warren County Christian School in a 43-37 loss to first-place Erie Bethel on Thursday.

The Lions trailed by 17 points after three quarters of play before rallying with 16 points in the final frame. Josiah Poindexter scored nine of his team-leading 15 points in the fourth, but the Warriors were able to do just enough to hang on for the win.

Erie Bethel trailed after the first quarter before Ricardo Rivera exploded for 15 points in the second. Rivera led all scorers with 21 points while teammate Mike Yourkonis scored seven and Ethan Heitzenrater added six.

Tommy Jones followed up Poindexter with with 12 points, Danny Jones and Ethan Kerr both hit three-pointers, and Josh Jones and Steven Brenner chipped in two points each for Warren County Christian.

The Lions travel to Faith Christian on Friday.
