Ike edged as Cochranton goes crazy from deep
Try as they might, Eisenhower wasn’t able to overcome the hot outside shooting of visiting Cochranton in Friday’s Region 3 contest.
The Cardinals made 11 triples, including four by Zac Wigton and three from Chance Hoffman en route to a 58-51 win over the host Knights.
“They hit those 11 there’s and that just killed us,” said Eisenhower coach Dave Allenson. “They shot a little bit better than us from the line, too.”
Eisenhower (8-7 overall, 5-4 Region 3) led by one late in the first half, but a long-ball from Alex McKay just before the buzzer gave Cochranton the lead, 21-19.
Jaydon Hayes and Thomas Warren each had 14 points for Ike, while Jack Reynolds had 13 as they continued to battle in the second half. The Cardinals (8-7, 5-4) had just a little too much, however, in earning a sweep of the two regular season meetings.
“I was happy with they way the kids played,” noted Allenson. “They played hard. If they play like that every game, I’ll be proud of them.”
Cochranton also won the JV game, 54-43. Cyrus Hazeltine poured in 19 points for Eisenhower, while Zach Fincher added 10.
