Warren swimmers drop road meet at McDowell

ERIE – The Warren swim teams traveled to McDowell on Thursday and faced some stiff competition, with the boys falling 102-63 and the girls by a score of 101-73.

Alyssa Brook qualified for districts in the 100 free, as did Andrew Beyer in the 200 IM and the boys 400 free relay team. “We had numerous time drops,” said Warren coach Russ Beyer. “A lot of kids swam their best times of the year. Emily Savedge, in particular, every time she swims the 500 she drops her time. She’s only 10 or 11 seconds off from qualifying for districts.”

Beyer also noted that his team, like many others at WAHS, has been hit by the flu bug and that the Christmas break is coming at the right time.

As far as Thursday goes, the Dragons knew exactly what they were facing.

“McDowell is pretty strong,” he said. “I don’t think we were intimidated, the kids were just going to swim their best. Good competition is going to bring out the best in you. I’d rather swim teams like that then teams you don’t get pushed by. We’ll see them again in February for senior night and hopefully get a different result.”

Complete results will be published in Saturday’s edition of the Times Observer.
