Lady Lions earn 3-1 win over Erie First

The WCCS Lady Lions bounced back after a rocky start to win their second New Penn Christian Conference volleyball match of the season on Tuesday, 3-1 in front of the home crowd at Warren County Christian School.

After falling behind early and dropping the first set 18-25, senior Desirae Kerr stepped up to serve 15 consecutive points to help the Lady Lions even the match with a 25-8 win in set number two. That momentum carried over to a 25-11 win in the next set, and WCCS outlasted Erie First in a back and forth battle to win the fourth set and the match, 25-19.

“I told them to take a deep breath, say a prayer and put the serves in the court,” said WCCS coach Monica Kerr. “They did that, and that’s what made the difference.”

Kerr finished with 23 service points, five aces, 11 assists and three kills. Allison Weidner led the team in kills with nine to go along with nine service points and four aces, Rachel Brenner had four kills, nine service points and four aces, Rebekah Erdman added eight service points, three aces and six assists, and Lydia Cox had seven service points and a pair of kills. Emma Marino also had two kills and Kelsey Kelley had a team-high six digs.

The Lady Lions (2-0) play next Tuesday at CCSI.
