Sharon QB Tomko commits to Edinboro

Sharon quarterback Andrew Tomko committed to Edinboro University on Friday, per his Twitter account.

Tomko threw for 2,701 yards in leading the Tigers to a District 10 Class AA runner-up finish this season, tossing 29 touchdowns to just five interceptions. That included a 13-of-20 effort for 171 yards and two scores in a 42-7 win against Warren on Oct. 2 at War Memorial Field.

The team that beat Sharon, Hickory, has highly regarded defensive back prospect Andrew Pryts committed to Penn State. Pryts recently entertained some other offers, including taking an official visit to Stanford. This seemed to be in response to PSU defensive coordinator Bob Shoop leaving for the same post at Tennessee. Shoop was one of Pryts’ primary recruiters, but the senior standout, despite that, appears to be fully committed to the Nittany Lions.

Speaking of Penn State targets, Farrell senior Malachi Newell is on campus this weekend for an official visit, per Sean Fitz of 247 Sports. Although Penn State hasn’t offered Newell, who is projected as a linebacker at the next level, there certainly is interest there from both parties.

Newell helped lead the Steelers past Eisenhower in the first round of the District 10 Class A playoffs en route to an appearance in the state championship game. In that game, he rushed for two touchdowns and also led the Steelers’ defense with 16 tackles.

Starting at $3.50/week.
