Sheffield girls fall to Otto-Eldred

DUKE CENTER – Despite an early, patient offensive effort, the Sheffield Lady Wolverines continue to struggle to put points on the board, falling to tournament hosts Otto-Eldred 62-13.

“I felt our patience on the offensive end gave us an advantage early,” said Sheffield coach Brandon Troutman. “We had many good looks early on, but as is the tune so far this year, we aren’t capitalizing on our high-percentage shots.”

The early missed shots allowed the hosts to build an 8-0 lead halfway through the opening period, before Sheffield got on the board, closing out the period down 16-5.

After trading buckets early in the second period, Otto-Eldred went on a 20-0 run to close out the half, leading 37-7.

Emily Smith led the spurt with seven of her game-high 16 points in the period.

Lexi Lyon paced Sheffield with six points. Lyon and Mya Grubbs both pulled down double figures in rebounds for the Lady Wolverines.

“With the exception of a three minute spurt in the second, and a two minute spurt in the fourth, I’m proud of the effort this evening,” Troutman said, “we made some strides offensively that I think will pay off for us down the road.”

Sheffield, now at 0-5, will play Oswayo Valley in the consolation round this afternoon at 2 p.m.
