WCCS drops regular season match for first time since 2011
MEADVILLE It’s been a while since the Warren County Christian School Lady Lions lost a match four years in fact.
Calvary Baptist ended that amazing run Tuesday, defeating WCCS in its season opener, 3-0 (25-14, 25-20, 25-18). It is the first loss for WCCS since Oct. 21, 2011.
“It’s the first time in a while,” said WCCS coach Monica Kerr. “This is a totally new team.”
Kerr was also quick to praise Calvary Baptist.
“They played really well,” she said. “They have a very good team.”
Leading WCCS was Kate Erdman (5 service points, 3 kills, 1 block), Allison Weidner (4 service points, 1 kill), Emily Stowe (1 block) Desirae Kerr (6 assists, 1 kill), Allie Marino (1 kill), Rebekah Erdman (service ace) and Kelsey Kelly (5 digs).
On a bright note for the Lady Lions, the JV squad earned a 2-0 (25-18, 25-8) victory.
Pacing the victors was Rebekah Erdman (14 service points, 10 aces, 1 kill, 5 assists), McKenna Phelps (ace), Rebecca Crouse (8 service points), Emma Marino (5 points, 1 kill), Olivia Cox (4 service points) and Rachel Beatty (2 service points, 2 digs).
The JV team returns to action Friday at Christian Life Academy, while the next varsity match is Tuesday at home against Tidioute Charter.
