Lady Wolverines still looking for 2nd win

Sheffield saw a third-quarter comeback fall short on Tuesday night, as the Wolverines fell to Johnsonburg at home, 45-30, after fading away in the final quarter.

After leading early on, the Wolverines watched as the Ramettes finished the opening quarter on a 13-5 run to take a seven-point lead.

Both teams saw their offensive production falter in the second quarter, as they combined for just 11 points, with Johnsonburg taking a 10-point lead into halftime.

It was early in the third quarter where the Wolverines came to life, as they opened the second half on a 8-2 run which was keyed by back-to-back three-pointers from Mariah Fitzgerald.

The Ramettes answered after seeing their lead cut to just three, ending the quarter with a 8-2 run of their own, before allowing just four points to the Wolverines in the fourth quarter.

Tierra Hansen led Sheffield (1-15) with 12 points, and Fitzgerald finished with nine, all of which came on three-pointers.

“It was the best we’ve played in a long time,” Sheffield coach Jaimie Ely said. “(Johnsonburg) started delaying the game, and we had to change our game plan. If they had kept playing the same way and not delayed, I think we would’ve been right there with them, and possibly won in the end.”

Sheffield’s junior varsity team also lost, 45-10.

The Wolverines are back in action on Friday when they travel to Kane.
