Lady Eagles lose in 4 games

It was an up-and-down night for the Lady Eagles.

Youngsville was defeated by Cambridge Springs, three sets to one, Tuesday in a Region 3 volleyball match.

After trailing by as many as seven in the first set, Cambridge Springs battled back to tie the game 24-24 before taking two consecutive points to earn the win. The Lady Eagles answered in a big way in the second set, leading 18-2 and holding on to win by a score of 25-14, but the visitors took the next two games, 7-25 and 20-25 to win the match.

“They’re playing better,” said Youngsville coach Bev Fox, whose team falls to 2-5 overall and 1-5 in Region 3. “Our serving killed us in the first set, then they came back and played very well in the second. They lost all their momentum in the third game. Communication is everything and they have moments when they just stop talking.”

Elyssa Horn had 15 digs and “served awesome” with 12 service points for the Lady Eagles.

Julie Jameson had a team-high 28 digs with four kills and a block; Karissa Cratty had 22 digs, four kills, and five blocks; and Kennedy Cratty had 11 digs, six kills, and six blocks.

Jada Rounds had six service points in a 13-25, 14-25 junior varsity loss.

Youngsville will be back in action on Thursday in a Region 3 match against Eisenhower at Eisenhower High School.

COCHRANTON 3, EISENHOWER 0

COCHRANTON-The Eisenhower Lady Knights were swept by defending District 10 Class A Champion and state runner-up Cochranton on Tuesday, 13-25, 10-25, and 15-25.

“(Cochranton) was the team the girls were the most threatened by coming into the season, and I think they were happy with the improvements they made against them,” said Lady Knights’ coach Ashlee Sprandle.

Holly Chapman had eight digs, four kills, and four blocks while Kristen Williams added nine digs for Ike, which drops to 1-6 overall with an 0-6 mark in Region 3.

Eisenhower fell in the junior varsity match, 18-25, 25-21, and 9-15. Emily McJunkin had nine digs, one ace and one kill. Madi Hultman stepped in at outside hitter in the varsity match and finished the night with a total of six digs and three kills between the two contests.

The Lady Knights, who have played every game on the road this season, will play the first game in the newly renovated Eisenhower High School gymnasium Thursday against county-rival Youngsville.

“Our girls are all very excited,” said Sprandle. “We’ve played everyone in the league once now and we’re finally getting our ‘home’ back. We’re not the displaced, homeless team anymore.”

MEADVILLE 3, WARREN 0

MEADVILLE-The Lady Dragons were swept by undefeated Meadville in a Region 5 match on Tuesday.

Warren’s second loss of the season came 19-25, 13-25, and 23-25. The Lady Dragons are now 5-2 overall and 2-2 in region play.

“Serving and serve receive let us down tonight,” said Warren coach Mike Dolan. “We had 10 service errors and gave away way too many attack opportunities by not controlling their serves very well.”

Paige Wilson had seven kills, two blocks and eight digs; Ashley Barker had 21 assists and three blocks; Bailey Dilks had nine digs; Jen Daugharthy had four kills and an ace; and Haley Tuller had four kills.

Warren’s junior varsity team was also defeated, 5-25 and 16-25. Lyndsey Goldthwaite had five digs and Kelsey Dilks had six assists.
