Warren rebounds with win over Corry; Ike tops Seneca

A hat trick by Warren’s Quinn Boger helped the Dragons break a two-game losing skid with a 5-0 victory over Corry Monday at War Memorial Field.

Boger and teammate Sheldon McMeans struck early in the first half for a 2-0 Warren lead heading into the break. Boger found the back of the net twice in the second half and Simon Smith added another goal as the Dragons improved to 7-5 overall and 6-1 in Region 4.

“Our possession was good. That was our goal coming in, to have strong possession, and we accomplished that,” said Warren coach Tom Harrington. “Our game speed wasn’t quite as fast as I prefer but we were still able to dominate possession; about 80 percent.”

Steffen Blair had a pair of assists in the win while McMeans and Tanner Kays added one each.

Clark Eason started the game in goal, playing the duration of the first half and the beginning of the second before giving way to Seth Harrington. It was a quiet afternoon for both as the Dragons outshot the Beavers 27-3.

Harrington credited the defensive play of McMeans as well as sophomore Russell Pearson, who made his first start playing defensive midfield and left back for the Dragons.

The Dragons have a week off before visiting Conneaut in another region match on Monday, Oct. 6.

EISENHOWER 2, SENECA 1

WATTSBURG-The Eisenhower Knights wrapped up a long stretch of road games with a 2-1 Region 3 win over Seneca on Monday.

Ike took a 1-0 lead in the first half when a corner kick by Josh Eernisse was headed in by Eric Sorenson.

A Seneca goal early in the second half knotted things at one before Christian Hefright took a pass from Eernisse and beat the keeper with 10 minutes left in the game.

“We had to move some guys around and try some new things today,” said Eisenhower coach Matt Decker, whose Knights are 6-3-1 overall and 1-3-1 in Region 3. “Levi Hendrickson left the game with a big cut over his eye and Casey Vincent did a good job for us dropping back to defense.”

Alex Johnson had 13 saves in goal for the Knights, including a stop on a penalty kick midway through the second half. Eisenhower outshot the host Bobcats 19-14.

The Knights – who have not played a home game since Sept. 4 – will host North East in a region match on Wednesday.

Alex Johnson and Kelly Glotz each scored goals for Ike in a 2-1 junior varsity win. Zach Fincher and Noah VanHouten had assists.
