Warren and Cathedral Prep have played their fair share of close games. Saturday’s non-region game at Old Legion Field in Warren was no different.

The Ramblers came out victorious this time, holding the Dragons to five singles in a 3-1 victory.

The game remained scoreless until the fourth inning, with Dragons’ pitcher Tanner Teconchuk and the Ramblers’ Sam Riley breezing through the first three.

The Ramblers threatened in the fourth, putting runners on first and second with one out. The threat turned out to be empty as Tanner Stanz snared a line drive and threw to Collin Fantaskey to turn the double play and get out of the inning.

The Dragons got on the board first in the bottom of the inning. Matt Hultquist started the inning with a walk. He was then replaced by courtesy runner Collin DeLattre and Derek Reagle then sacrificed DeLattre to second base. With Jason Stanton at the plate, DeLattre advanced to third on a wild pitch by Riley. Stanton then ripped a line drive single to right field, scoring DeLattre.

Prep wasted no time responding, scoring two runs in the top of the fifth on a bloop RBI single by Vincent Schohn and an RBI fielder’s choice by Carter Cross.

The Dragons threatened in the bottom of the fifth when Stanz drove a deep fly ball to left field. Prep’s Charlie Fessler made an incredible catch, laying out just feet in front of the fence to preserve the Rambler lead.

Prep extended its lead in the top of the sixth when Fessler drove an RBI triple to left-center field to make the score 3-1.

Warren was able to put two runners on base in the bottom of the sixth, but two strikeouts ended what turned out to be Warren’s last threat.

Despite the loss, Warren coach Rick Eaton was positive after the game.

“It was a good game, in good weather, against a good team,” said Eaton, whose Dragons are in a stretch three home games in five days, hosting Harbor Creek on Monday in a Region 7 game. “We didn’t get the results we wanted, but we will take this kind of game any time.”

Tyler Bradley and Jake Retterer both pitched a scoreless inning of relief for the Dragons. Teconchuk took the loss despite only allowing two earned runs in five innings.

The non-region loss drops the Dragons to 2-3 overall on the season. Prep improved to 6-0.

Derek Reagle and Jimmy Vile had three hits each in Warren’s 10-6 junior varsity win, to improve to 5-0. Vile struck out six over the final three innings for the win.

Titusville 9, Eisenhower 7

TITUSVILLE – Eisenhower dropped to 0-2 overall and in Region 4 with a 9-7 loss at Titusville on Saturday.

Fly balls that dropped in might be more appropriate, as Ike coach Cody Vincent said it was a game the Knights should have won. That said, he agreed this showed with a solid effort the Knights should win games like this with improvement.

Leading 2-0, Eisenhower got two quick outs to start the bottom of the third before a fly ball that fell in started a three-run rally for Titusville, which is a Class AA team in Class A Eisenhower’s region.

In the top of the fourth, a two-run home run by Casey Vincent gave the Knights back the lead before the wheels fell off for Ike.

Three walks to start the bottom of the fourth for Titusville led to a three-run triple for JJ Bleday and the Rockets never trailed again.

Down 9-6, Ike started the sixth with runners on second and third and no outs, but a baserunning mistake helped Titusville out of a jame with just one run allowed.

The Knights, which made four errors and a couple other mental errors behind toughluck losing pitcher Kyle Hunt, went down in order in the seventh to end the game. Titusville had just five hits. Bleday was 2-for-3 with three RBI.

Coach Vincent said Monday’s game at Iroquois is a cricual game against a region Class A opponent.

Casey Vincent was 2-for-4 and gave the home run ball to his grandfather.

Hunt added two hits in the loss, and Alex Johnson two RBI.
