Good start for Beaty

The Beaty Warren Middle School eighth-grade basketball team is undefeated to start the year with a 3-0 record that includes a Kane Middle School Tournament Championship.

The Dragons opened the Kane Tournament with a 61-25 win over Bradford behind James Swanson’s 15 points, Payton Barnes’s 13 and Micah Passmore’s 12. Ben Salapek added nine points, Alex Borger had eight, and Ben Berdine, Hayden Morse and Ethan Wilson all chipped in two.

That win moved Beaty into the championship game, where Passmore and Barnes scored 12 and 10 to lead their team in a 30-10 win. Swanson finished with three points while Berdine and Salapek added two each and Jared Beers scored one.

In addition to the tournament championship, Passmore and Barnes received All-Tournament Player Awards.

On Wednesday, Beaty beat Bradford again, this time by a final score of 53-26. Barnes led the way with 14 points, Berdine and Salapek both had 10, Passmore had eight, Swanson had three, and Morse, Wesley Kiehl, Blake Arnold and Dylan Maeder all had two.
