Meridian Hardwood wins Over 30 title

Meridian Hardwood beat Buckhorn 12-11 to capture the Over 30 softball league title on Tuesday. Doug Atteberry delivered the late-inning dramatics, belting a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 7th after Buckhorn scored five runs in the top half of the inning to tie it.

Andy Muntz delivered a pair of home runs for the winners, while Ed Ellis was 2-for-3 with a double and Joe Blauser also doubled. Jay Reese was the winning pitcher.

Ladies Only Day

There will be a Ladies Only Day at Pine Grove Sportsmen on Egypt Hollow Road in Russell this Saturday form 12-3 p.m.. If you wanted to learn about firearms, safe gun handling and shooting please attend. You will have the opportunity to shoot 22 handguns and rifles, try out trap shooting and IDPA shooting. All shooting is free, firearms and ammunition is provided. Refreshments and door prizes. You only need to bring a desire to learn about shooting to attend. All shooting will be conducted in a safe, controlled environment, rain or shine (we will use pop-ups to keep everyone dry). Lottsville Loop

The Lottsville Loop, a 5 mile run and 1.5 mile walk/run, was held on Sat. Sept. 12, 2015 to celebrate Lottsville’s Bicentennial. The race benefited The Wrightsville and Bear Lake Fire Dept. There were a total of 56 participants.

Fall Youth Trap League

Shooters stayed dry and turned in good scores Sunday during our 2nd shoot.

Elijah Trawick and Hayden Edwards each shot 25 to tie for “Top Gun” honors. Hi Lady was Mikkailla Durlin at 17.

Kinzua U-12 girls

The Kinzua Soccer Club U-12 girls opened their PA WEST fall soccer season by traveling to Shenango Valley Sunday and bringing home a 9-0 win. Kyra Wotorson lead the way for Kinzua with 4 goals. Also adding to the goals were Riley Childress a goal and 2 assists, Ella Ordiway a goal and 2 assists, Alyssa Andersen a goal and 1 assist ,Cassie Smelko a goal and 1 assist and Georgie Bickling with a goal. Lennon Dailey also contributed to the offense with solid all around play and deep, well placed throw-ins. Alyssa Fuchs and Katie Madigan had outstanding performances on defense keeping the Shenango team pinned in their side of the field for most of the game. The girls will be back in action in a “friendly” against the Kinzua U-12 boys this Sunday and then resume their PAWEST schedule every Sunday through the first weekend of November.

Beaty girls split

Beaty’s 7th grade basketball team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 24-7 win over visiting Meadville on Tuesday. Beaty’s strong defense, led by Katie Moore, Teagan Paris and Sarah Satcho, had another shutout quarter and made things difficult for Meadville’s post players. Kelsey Stuart had a season-high 12 points, followed by Satcho with four, and Paris and Alex Neuriter with two. Skyla Urig and Jackie Petersom both scored a bucket for their first points of the season. Beaty travels to Oil City on Thursday.

Meadville topped Beaty in the 8th grade game, 24-15. Grace Wortman led Beaty with nine points, while Taylor Childress added five.

Ladies golf tour

The final event of the Ladies Golf Tour will be held Monday September 21 on the Hill Course of Chautauqua Golf Course. Registration must be done before 8:30 as we tee off no later than 9:00.

Players should remember that 50/50 tickets will be sold at this event.
