Proficiency rates from schools across the state are not the only items the public will have access to at the moment. Earlier this month, the state announced it has launched a tool that makes it easier for parents and community members to view annual vaccination rates at individual schools — not just at the state or county-level like before — boosting transparency and giving families a clearer picture of how well protected their children’s classrooms are.
“Knowledge is power, and Pennsylvania parents deserve clear, accessible data about the health of their children’s schools,” said Secretary of Health Dr. Debra Bogen. “This new tool cuts through the noise, putting critical information directly into the hands of families and local leaders so they can work together to reduce the risk of vaccine-preventable diseases like measles and whooping cough.”
The site, at https://www.pa.gov/content/dam/copapwp-pagov/en/health/documents/topics/healthstatistics/school-immunizations/current/school-immunization-rates.html includes information on Warren County schools.
What you will find is most of the students locally are up to date on their shots. That is important information, especially now with the rising cases of measles in Pennsylvania.
Those who responded to our weekly poll at timesobserver.com, however, were not as impressed. Fifty-five percent said "no" to the question "Do you agree with having school vaccination data online?" Forty-five percent supported the idea.
