Our opinion: Make Warren Gives even bigger this year
Warren Gives has grown by leaps and bounds since its inception in 2013.
Giving has increased from $146,000 in 2013 for the benefit of 87 charitable causes, to a record breaking amount of over $1,000,000 to 110 charitable causes that serve Warren County residents. That’s pretty impressive when you consider our population has decreased. It means the community continues to dig deep to support a growing non-profit community that works on behalf of everyone from children to senior citizens and a wide range of worthy public purposes.
None of this would be possible without the public, which has shown itself more and more willing over the years to open their wallets to support causes near and dear to donors’ hearts. The match pool, which we think is one reason for the success of Warren Gives, is supported by a multitude of community sponsors, including Community Foundation of Warren County, DeFrees Family Memorial Fund, Betts Foundation, Calvert-Pearson Insurance, Crossett, Ellwood National Forge, Northwest Charitable Foundation, McComas Charitable Fund, Sara Sokolski Memorial Fund, Superior Tire & Rubber, & United Refining Company, as well as three new sponsors, the Price Family Charitable Fund, the Richard T. Betts Family Foundation, Whirley Drinkworks.
It’s always amazing to see how deeply the Warren County community can dig when it comes to charity. As we noted, our population isn’t growing. Yet Warren County comes through for its non-profit community at every turn. We hope this year’s Warren Gives is the biggest yet – because our community’s needs are bigger than they have ever been.
Online donations can be made from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday at WarrenGives.org.
