Our opinion: Enforce parking rule on Second Ave.

A new no-parking area on Second Avenue wasn’t the most important thing on Monday’s City Council agenda.

Damage to people’s yards isn’t the biggest issue facing the city of Warren. Most city residents won’t see a difference. But for residents of Second Avenue, the City Council’s decision this week to prohibit parking in a 20-foot zone west of the Kinzua Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center’s driveway entrance is incredibly important.

Delivery trucks have had trouble getting in and out of the loading area because of cars parked too close to the driveway. Trucks then end up damaging neighboring properties because they’re trying to avoid the parked cars. It’s a no-win situation.

Taking care of situations like these is at the very heart of local government. In our view council members did the right thing declaring the area a no-parking zone.

But that’s only half the battle.

Now, it’s up to the police department to ticket those who create the no-win situation in the first place. As much as neighbors love the idea of the no-parking zone now, their love will turn to hate if cars continue parking in the new no-parking zone. New laws and ordinances are great, but only if we enforce them.

Starting at $4.00/week.
