Our opinion: Finding energy at the market
Warren’s downtown farmer’s market is off to a flying start.
Market organizers say it’s about to get even better. Twenty-eight vendors signed up for the farmer’s market a couple of weeks ago, with board members expecting more to sign up in coming weeks as the planting season turns to the harvest. That means more fresh fruits and vegetables to go along with the market’s selection of craft vendors, potted plants, baked goods, flowers, honey, maple syrup and Gary Lester’s “trashidermy” and live music.
The Midtown lot is becoming a popular place from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays, according to board member Josie Gerardi.
“There are people, you see old friends you haven’t seen since maybe the last Farmer’s Market. It’s a social activity of the Warren area, not just Warren but Warren County,” she told the Times Observer. “It’s a good thing. We’re fortunate to have it.”
We’re fortunate to have not only the farmer’s market, but the farmers and artisans who bring their goods each week. Our farmer’s market is an opportunity to celebrate Warren County’s agricultural heritage and pay homage to our agrarian roots. Buying fresh produce at the farmer’s market supports local farms and the people they employ while bringing some of the tastiest produce you can find into your home.
