Our opinion: Fire a gut punch for Youngsville

Youngsville won’t be quite the same after a fire Sunday destroyed the building that housed Lonnie’s Pizza.

Those who lived in apartments above the business need to rebuild and find new places to live while a family-owned business has to navigate an uncertain time.

Lonnie’s had built quite a following in Youngsville and the surrounding community in the roughly two years the business had been open, sponsoring community events and renovating the shop’s dining room.

A Facebook post from the pizza shop’s owners late Sunday night showed the depth of that following while providing hope that, if things go well, the shop may have a bright future in downtown Youngsville.

Dozens of neighbors and customers expressed their shock at the loss and their support for the owners and employees.

It was the sort of response that we have come to expect from the close-knit townships and boroughs that make up Warren County.

The sense of community togetherness that arises from shocking events like a fire or unexpected illness is sometimes taken for granted – until the community comes together to support you in a time of need.

Hopefully, the support expressed in the wake of Sunday’s fire means Lonnie’s Pizza won’t be out of commission for too long – and the community can support the shop’s owners as they have over the past two years.

Starting at $4.00/week.
