Our opinion: Navigating a plan for splash pad

The idea of splash pads in Youngsville is an interesting one.

Warren County has its share of public pools between the Brokenstraw Valley and Warren city pools — but splash pads may be a way for Youngsville officials to give the area’s children a place to cool down without undergoing the expense of building a pool or hiring lifeguards.

No one should be under any illusion that splash pads are cheap. Jamestown, N.Y., recently allocated $500,000 of American Rescue Plan Act funding to install a pair of splash pads in two of its parks.

It may not be that expensive to install one in Youngsville depending on how intricate the design is, where the pad is located and how easy it is to run the necessary utilities to the site. At the same time, those who like the idea should know there will fundraising involved.

In our opinion, the fundraising is worth it. These are the sorts of lower-cost amenities that can make Youngsville more attractive to families looking to move and make summers a little more fun for the children who already call Youngsville home — especially younger children who may not swim well enough to spend summers in the Brokenstraw Valley pool.

Kudos to Revitalization of Youngsville officials for broaching the idea. At first blush it’s a good one.

Starting at $3.50/week.
