Our opinion: Plenty of community contributions

It’s hard not to be struck by the generosity of the Warren community.

We recently noted the success and importance of river cleanups held in Warren County. But there are so many uplifting stories to tell.

Here are a few, just from this week:

¯ Rally in the Valley raised $9,000 for the Warren County Veterans Council’s Veteran Emergency Fund after 330 riders decided to participate in the event — one of the biggest crowds in the event’s history.

¯ Another $374 was raised as part of a United Fund kickoff fundraiser in memory of longtime board member Barb Tubbs sponsored by the Community Foundation of Warren County and the FirstEnergy Foundation. The fundraiser aimed to line the Veterans Memorial Bridge in Warren with nickels, and the 516-foot bridge was covered by about 7,400 nickels.

¯ The Walk to End Alzheimers at Betts Park raised more than $17,000, led by team Peace of Mind’s $2,900.

¯ Lydia and Pam Balas, organizers of Cinderella’s Closet, have given away roughly 100 dresses to students looking to attend a school dance. Dresses appropriate for homecoming, a Christmas dance, and prom were available, as were shoes and accessories.

That’s a lot of good work in one short week’s time.
