An additional $531,000 in federal funding for Warren General Hospital renovations is a worthy investment in health care for our region.
The money will help pay for renovations to the existing Emergency Room department, including larger treatment spaces for patients as well as a new HVAC system for proper ventilation to prevent airborne spread of diseases. The project will triple behavioral health rooms while a separate USDA grant is being used for new beds and a new electronic records system so all the hospital's records are on one system rather than the three systems used now.
That's all good news for patients to Warren General Hospital. Unlike bigger cities that have multiple hospitals, those of us who live in rural areas know full well the importance of our small hospital and the difficulty rural providers like ours have accessing the type of capital needed to modernize their facilities. Warren General Hospital's ability to grow and keep up with the times is crucial to Warren County residents.
This work would be difficult without the federal funding, so give credit to the region's federal representatives for their advocacy on behalf of Warren County. It will be needed again in the future. For all the work that has been done so far at WGH, there is more to be done.
