Our opinion: Rides are part of fair’s appeal

There was a lot of sadness, we’re sure, when Warren County Fair Board officials said in March there would be no rides at this year’s county fair.

It wasn’t the board’s fault. The old ride company’s schedule no longer allowed it to provide midway rides for the Warren County Fair, and the fair board had found little luck finding a replacement on short notice.

Luck, however, favors the prepared. And the Warren County Fair Board was nothing if not prepared in its search for a carnival ride vendor. Last week, the board announced an agreement has been reached with Penn Valley Shows LLC to provide rides, games and food concessions for the fair’s midway while also adding the All-American Petting Zoo and Pony Rides from Ridgeland, S.C.

We would have made do had this year’s fair not had carnival rides. But it goes without saying children — and a fair amount of adults, too — will have a better time with rides available.

Great work, Warren County Fair Board.
