Our opinion: A transformation for Love INC.

Love INC. of Warren County is going to wind down its work in the county this week.

That’s sad news, because Love INC. has done a lot of important work that many members of the general public don’t necessarily see.

In our opinion, however, the local Love INC. of Warren County board has made the right decision in part because their heart is in the right place. Local board members say it’s too expensive to belong to the national Love INC. organization, with the membership costs and requirements sometimes meaning the local group can help fewer people. The next few months will involve some retooling of the local organization so that the onus for funding isn’t placed primarily on churches that are themselves struggling through the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Our board feels very strongly that if the churches are struggling, then we need to reevaluate our model and not be asking for their precious resources in order to keep our lights on,” Heidi Kafferlin, Love INC. of Warren County executive director, told the Times Observer.

We couldn’t agree more. We’re excited to see what the future holds for whatever the new organization is called. In this time of uncertainty, one thing won’t change — there is going to be a need for an organization like Love INC. in Warren County.

Starting at $4.00/week.
