For years, War Memorial Field has been a point of community pride.

It should be. The field is beautiful, especially for a small city like ours. The community facility supports football, soccer, track, marching band and is used by the Warren County YMCA, too.

One of the points of pride is the fact that the field is truly a community effort. Since the 1990s, the Warren Sports Boosters has leased the property from the Warren County School District and undertraken fundraising and renovations so that the burden for our community jewel wasn’t placed on local taxpayers.

It’s time for us to dig deep and support the Warren Sports Boosters $1 million capital campaign for the stadium — because some pieces of the 1990s-era capital project are starting to show their age. The locker rooms, bathrooms and stadium sound system need upgrades, the track and football field both need to be replaced.

The Warren Sports Boosters provide a valued service to taxpayers and to our youth. It’s time now to contribute to the boosters’ capital campaign so that War Memorial Field remains something to be proud of for years into the future.
