Standing firm on Youngsville pool

Youngsville Borough Council members believed there truly was no choice. Despite a small group of citizens showing up for a meeting earlier this month in an attempt to change their mind, lawmakers stood their ground.

The pool will remain closed this summer. In reiterating that decision, council members were polite but firm. “I applaud you for coming tonight,” Mayor Scott Nelson Nelson said. “I understand your plight. We’re in a position where our hands are tied.”

Trying to enforce the COVID-19 regulations at the facility was the main consideration for this summer’s closure.

In addition, Nelson said the concession stand, rock wall and slide also are impacted by the pool decision.

Summer was cruel in 2020. As vaccinations increase — at least in Youngsville — there’s hope for more normalcy in 2022.
