Our opinion: Winning solution for football

It was frankly heartbreaking to see the plug pulled on Sheffield’s 2020 football season after one game, even if the school district had no choice but to do so.

We’re glad to see that Sheffield’s football players will be welcomed at Warren for the rest of the season. Of course, that required quick discussions inside the Warren County School District and approval from the PIAA. The players could be in pads as early as this week.

Kudos to the Warren County School District for quickly putting a plan together once it became evident that Sheffield didn’t have enough players to compete safely and to the PIAA for its quick approval of the school district’s plans.

While it may seem like a no-brainer, we have seen these types of things get bogged down in red tape, with concerns about administrative convenience taking precedence over the needs of student-athletes.

It’s gratifying to see adults act like adults and do all they could to make sure the Sheffield athletes don’t miss out on a football season, particularly the team’s seniors.
