Our opinion: Serving up participation

City of Warren officials are definitely taking note of an activity that continues to show signs of growth. Last week, council approved the addition of two pickleball courts to Beaty Park.

Pickleball, especially with the middle-age and older generation, is a big deal. Not only does it help keep people active, it also gets people out to socialize.

Of course, growing popularity could also create a problem. Demand could lead to some players wanting scheduling. For now, that is off the table. However, the health benefits continue to bring praise.

Resident Marlene Sandberg told council there is a “great need for two new courts. The flow would be so much better” and be able to accommodate more people.

“Anything we can do to promote health and fitness for the elderly would be great,” she said.

We agree.
