Not all are against roundabout
My previous occupation was office manager of Mountain Laurel FCU located at 117 Pennsylvania Ave W. when the decision was made to proceed with the Roundabout and prior to that I was the President/Treasurer of WACOPSE FCU for thirty plus years. Therefore, I feel the need to contribute the other point of view that there are Warren County residents that feel this Roundabout might just make this area better!
I am not currently a city resident, I have been in the past, but I am a county resident who works in the city of Warren Monday to Friday. My husband and I shop, dine, and participate in local community events as well as donate to local charities. I walk the streets of downtown Warren daily as well as the Pennsylvania Avenue and Market Street intersection that is in question.
Currently, this is an unsafe intersection for drivers and pedestrians. I have had several close calls both walking and driving. On numerous occasions, I have waited thru three lights coming south down Market Street waiting to turn left. I have witnessed accidents and pedestrians being hit and several years ago a car went through the credit union lawn the night before a scheduled youth event.
Also, if managed properly, I feel the finished product will add to the beautification of the downtown area that is already in progress.
Last fall, my husband and I spent two days in the small Ohio town of Troy where the center of activity was a beautifully landscaped roundabout.
Trucks maneuvered it fine and at a safe speed.
There was a bandstand off to the side, with plenty of area for people to enjoy events.
Walking around the town was safe and well-marked. The locals seemed to be managing the roundabout well.
Please stop saying that “everyone is against the roundabout!” Our elected officials should be representing all of our interests. I attended the community meetings that were held. Questions were asked and answered. The plan was explained. We should trust the experts.
Change is never easy, and adjustments will need to be learned and made.
Are we going to be open to change and move forward with the Plan that began two years ago or continue to waste valuable time making every attempt to fight what has already been decided?
