‘You’ll be happier’

I have to wonder — and I’m just throwing this out there, does anyone really believe that your long, drawn-out diatribes were actually convincing someone to vote for … someone else?

Because I, on the other, believe all of your long, drawn-out diatribes were actually cementing their purpose, punching their ticket even harder, pushing that button even faster.

Don’t get me wrong, I saw it from both sides.

All sides.

Teachers vs. School board administration…

Cubs vs. Indians…

Trump vs. Clinton.

And what I saw was insatiable, it was riveting, it was frustrating, I couldn’t look away.

Like a car accident.

Here’s the deal:

This is an opinion, my opinion… It falls at timesobserver.com under the subject, “Local Commentaries.” It is published under the heading “Comment…” up above.

There was a time I believed most of you would get it — get that an opinion, however persuasive, was only that, an opinion.

What do they say about those? Something like, “… Everybody has one.”

That being said, I’m a Yankees fan. I didn’t care if the Cubs or if the Indians won…

And…

You weren’t going to sway my vote.

With that said, the posts on Facebook, the opinions on social media, have gone from insatiable, riveting and frustrating… to

Even worse…

Negative.

Hateful.

Because of who I voted for for President?

Because of my beliefs?

Because of my opinion?

So, what’s the end result?

Stop visiting social media? Drop my Facebook account?

It’s not always that easy, right? To stop listening, hearing the hate.

There is a website, “Life with Confidence — A positive way of thinking (http://www.life-with-confidence.com/how-to-deal-with-negative-people.html),” where I found an article, “How to deal with negative people.”

“11 tips on how to deal with negative people.”

I came to the very last tip of the article. It was actually No. 12:

12. Take The Garbage Truck Pledge

David J. Pollay is the author of The Law of the Garbage Truck. His belief is that,

“Many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they look for a place to dump it. And if you let them, they’ll dump it on you. So when someone wants to dump on you, don’t take it personally. Just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. Believe me. You’ll be happier.”
