Call for blood donors
Dear Editor,
The American Red Cross has declared only the second national blood crisis in its history -- and patients may already be feeling the impact. Blood donations have fallen to a four-year summer low, worsening this summer's emergency shortage. Donors are asked to act immediately to help save lives.
All blood types are needed, but the situation is especially dire for type O blood as the Red Cross is now limiting distribution of these blood products to hospitals. The supply of type O positive blood has now fallen below a one-day supply.
There's also an emergency platelet shortage. Nearly half of all platelet transfusions are given to patients battling cancer. Without platelets, many lifesaving cancer treatments must be delayed.
A readily available blood and platelet supply is the backbone of modern medicine. Just three more donors at each blood drive or donation center this summer can end this crisis and stabilize the blood supply. Bilger offers choice
Dear Editor,
It is impressive. The comfortable temperature, dry air, lack of insects, low humidity and tasty food and beverages contributed but Tom Pellegrino's 434 Conewango Ave. Pellegrino's Creekside Pavilion – "Year Round Gathering Place" is impressive. It is indeed a community asset.
It was the recent location for loyal members of the Warren County Democratic Party to gather. It was a recent Saturday evening and the featured speakers were Destiny Howard, candidate for our PA. 65 District PA. House of Representatives, and our candidate for our 15 District U. S. House of Representatives, Ray Bilger.
Both Howard and Bilger are viable candidates.
There were no "mud slinging" personal attacks against their opponents. There was ample talk about backgrounds, why they are running, and what they hope to achieve, the usual and necessary things.
However, Bilger was particularly impressive.
Ray contributed 35 years to our military. He served in Desert Shield. He speaks five languages. Ray lived abroad, a number of years in Turkey, Ray was an intelligence analyst and was involved in Special Operations. Ray's service helped make America secure.
Ray expressed disgust over Trump's foreign policies and the Iran war. Trump's re-classification of four slain soldiers, Trump's ignoring military's advice, he lack of a clear mission and exit, and the lack of forward thinking were include in Ray Bilger's presentation.
U.S. Rep. Glenn Thompson voted with Trump 95% of the time, a consistent Trump ally. Thompson has not spoken out or stood up to book banning, or to oppose Trump's D. E. I, and he voted for Trump's Big Beautiful Bill that cut financial aid to rural hospitals that contributed to Bradford Hospital's closing while the BBB gave significant tax relief to Trump's ultra wealthy sponsors. He has said nothing about the nearly $1,000,000,000 a day cost of Trump's war or Americans paying Trump's tariffs or Trump's scoffing denial of "affordability."
Thompson signed a letter contesting the outcome of the 2020 presidential election.
If we want a change, Ray Bilger would be a change, a competent, common sense change. Twenty years of "rubber stamp" Thompson is enough.
Veterans you are going to like Bilger. Funds are limited and time is running out so check him out. He is military and thinks strategically. We would be well served to have Ray Bilger as our Representative.
Ray Bilger is impressive.
