Two sides to poor taste

Dear Editor,

President Trump’s comment on Rob Reiner, following the murder of the Hollywood star and his wife, was in poor taste. Such comments can alienate voters who otherwise approve of his policies.

He should have said nothing.

If asked for a comment, he could have said, “Reiner was a much admired director.I wish comfort for those who mourn Rob and Michele. That’s all I’ll say. Rob slandered me many times.”

Reiner called Trump a “convicted felon.” The “conviction” was part of a sham trial arranged by partners of the Joe Biden oligarchy. Reiner called Trump a moron, “mentally unfit to run the country” and “mentally unstable.” He compared the 2025 political climate to Nazi Germany. Trump did not owe Reiner a flowery eulogy.

Reiner said “a lot of Trump supporters are racists.” An insulting lie.

Hollywood “elites,” along with elected officials like Karen Bass (Los Angeles mayor) and Gavin Newsom (California governor) oppose the removal of illegal immigrants, including the most dangerous, by ICE. They love these migrants as long as the migrants are kept out of their wealthy neighborhoods. We remember how fast they were hustled out of Martha’s Vineyard.

Quote from actor Harrison Ford, from Bill O’Reilly’s website: “It’s like it’s always been. The rich get richer, the poor get poorer and that ain’t exactly right.”

That’s ironic coming from a man worth $300 million, according to Wikipedia. Maybe he should use 1% of his wealth, $3 million, and open soup kitchens for the poor.

Jonathan Turley is a distinguished law professor and expert on constitutional law at George Washington University.

He states that Trump needed no congressional approval to authorize the capture of Nicholas Maduro and his wife.

This was pending the 2020 indictment of Maduro in the Southern District of New York where he will likely face trial. The operation was justified as executing a criminal warrant responding to an international drug cartel. The legal framework is similar to the 1989 capture of Manuel Noriega who was convicted of drug and money laundering offenses.

Maduro led the “Cartel of the Sun” Venezuelan drug traffickers and participated in the narco-terrorist conspiracy (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia). Various articles estimated 250,000 American deaths due to fentanyl from 2021 to 2024. Atrocious crimes were committed by Tren de Aragua, originating from Venezuela. Such atrocities were augmented by Maduro’s ‘leadership’ and Biden’s open border policy.

Predictably, the progressives are condemning Trump for rebuilding American safety and punishing evil. Maybe none were ever brutalized by Tren de Aragua or mourned a loved one killed by fentanyl. Extreme foolishness.

Good luck, New York City. You’re going to need it!

Important points

Dear Editor,

In my close to 20 years as part of the Warren community, one-sided, anti-Israel talking points have become synonymous in the Readers Speaks section. They seem obsessed with hatred for the solitary Jewish state and nothing but good tidings for the 53 Muslim countries in the world.

To these writers, I say we are both senior citizens with records of military service and service to our community. One question: Would you prefer me as a neighbor and friend (with Hanukkah candles and a Star of David in my home) or jihadists and neo Nazis?

It may be time to lay off our Jewish brothers — yours and mine. I’m a Jew, but I believe that Jesus would agree.
