Looking the other way

Dear Editor,

Monkey Mizaaru sees no evil. Monkey Kikazaru hears no evil. Monkey Iwazaru says no evil. Japanese children learn this early on, it’s part of their culture. It is viewed as a pathway to moral clarity by shunning the secular world based on Confucius teachings.

We in the West, see this as Willful Ignorance. “Turn a blind eye,” “turn a deaf ear or eye,” “pay no mind,” and “what happens in Washington D. C. stays in D. C.” are not taught to our children as admirable traits.

Our United States Senators and Representatives and Cabinet members are not trying to gain a Buddha-like moral purification or divine enlightenment by mimicking the three see no evil, hear no evil and say no evil monkeys, far from it.

The “looking the other way” flies in the face of our Department of Homeland Security (DHS)’s “if you see something, say something.” Americans are obligated to speak up, take action so sayth Micah 6:8 and the Good Samaritan Law (42 PAA Con. Stat. 8332).

Our culture mocks the Three blind, deaf, and dumb Monkeys. We admire the courageous individuals who confront wrongs, take personal risks to support those in need of help, call out wrong doers and try to make things right.

Our society and our representative democracy require citizen participation. Our citizens need positive role models. Do our legislators not see or hear? Do they not have voice and access to the mass media?

Did the legislators or their staff not see – hear Trump on December 3rd on NBC claim “he and Bobby and Oz have lowered the prices of drugs from 100% to 600%, 800%.”

Any fifth grade math student knows 100% drop means no payment and 800% means drug companies would pay eight times the cost of the drug to those buying the drug.

It’s a good thing Trump didn’t take the recent state math proficiency test. He would have dragged the average down. He said he aced the cognitive part. He remembered person-woman-camera. A real genius.

No legislator comment. Maybe they were too busy laughing. I hope they aren’t laughing about Trump’s more serious malfeasance. Speak out. Wuss down. Stand up.
