Euphemism party

Dear Editor,

Ever notice that when the Democrats attain power, they seem to have this strategy of passing massive boondoggle legislation implementing their favorite Leftist projects, but they name them something innocent, perhaps even popular, to camouflage their true intent?

Take Obamacare, the “Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.” The classic, “We’ll have to pass it to see what’s in it” socialist gem.

Did it protect patients? You mean, as in, “If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor”? Hardly. Is it affordable? Only if you can afford it, which many could not.

The coverage provided by the basic plans was laughable and purchasing it was mandatory by law, until Republicans stepped in and eliminated that authoritarian requirement. Having trouble with satisfactory medical care or billing? Thank Obamacare. But the Democrats are going to “Save Democracy. Protect your freedom.” Right.

And the crowning jewel was the “Inflation Reduction Act.” Another whopper, that wasn’t about inflation, didn’t reduce inflation, in fact made it worse. President Joe Biden, recently stumping for candidate Kamala Harris and bragging about all the spending his administration has done in only one term, admitted that it was never about reducing inflation. “We should have called it what it was,” he said. Apparently senility re-engages one’s innate instinct to tell the truth. Who knew? He admitted that it was always about climate change. And if you’ll recall when it was passed, Democrats controlled the House and enough greedy Republican senators crossed over to create a tie, which was broken by, you guessed it, Vice President Harris, laughing all the way. Now, we all have opinions about the subject of climate change, but it smacks of the disgusting duplicity of the Democrat Party to underhandedly throw money at it by dishonestly pulling a bait and switch job on the voters.

Remember the COVID-19 pandemic relief legislation? First there was the CARES Act, $2.2 trillion, arguably necessary, albeit the largest economic stimulus package in U.S. history. Who says this isn’t a great country!

Like sharks smelling blood, then came the blatantly excessive $2.3 trillion Consolidated Appropriations Act 2021. Consolidated because it combined $900 billion of pandemic relief with $1.4 trillion of pork barrel projects disguised as a budget and passed by a lame duck Congress. Under the promise of a Democrat Senate override due to a tie breaker by you-know-who, it was signed by a lame duck President, who, to his credit, termed it a “disgrace” and “wasteful and unnecessary.” Then, after the election and now with control of the House, the Democrats, having rid us of the terrible orange man and drunk with power, devised the $1.9 trillion “American Rescue Plan.”

That name would have been appropriate if only it had rescued America from Democrats. This one also passed the Senate with a tie-breaking vote by, there she is again, Vice President Harris. All that money dumped into an economy with few goods to purchase because those same geniuses had allowed everything to be shut down. Pretty much the definition of inflation creation.

So there you have it. The budget-busting, deficit-enhancing, inflation-inflating “Inflation Reduction Act.” The original $369 billion bill will now top $800 billion, according to the CBO. Bloomberg estimates it will push past $1 trillion. And now your erstwhile Democrat presidential hopeful has the utter gall to brag about how inflation has been brought to grips and whine that she and Biden inherited the worst economy ever. Inflation created by her own hand, literally. An economy booming until the nanny state decided to shut everything down. While the inflated prices of everything haven’t budged, and won’t. You really can’t make this up. Happy days are here again!

Facts and fiction

Dear Editor,

Several months have elapsed since Donald J. Trump emphatically stated on national TV that if elected president he would be a dictator on day one. For once in his life he did not lie. However, he failed to mention his dictator, or autocrat philosophy for the following 1,459 days.

That message resounded with cheers from Putin in Russia and Orban in Hungary. Not only there, but in the MAGA republic of the United States of America. Facts are facts, truth is truth and lies are lies. Trump, undoubtedly, would dispute those historic and logical conclusions about facts, truth and lies which have survived mankind, that is, except for Donald and other liars throughout history.

Fact: Trump is a convicted felon. Fact:Trump lost the presidential election to President Joe Biden. Fact: Trump took federal documents to Mar-a-Lago without permission.Fact: Trump assaulted and had sexual relations with certain women. Fact: Trump University and his New Jersey casino went bankrupt. Truth: Trump is deadly afraid of the truth. Fact: Men and women convicted of illegal activities on January 6 and in prison are not hostages as Trump maintains. Lies: Trump is noted for his mountain of lies, the most important of which are his election defeat to President Biden and the January 6 insurrection of our Capitol.

Lies: Trump denied any knowledge of project 2025 when he was briefed on it. Do we need a dictator/autocrat, and a liar in the White House? Our precious country and democracy depends on our vote for democracy in November. Trump has neither attributes.

Lots on line in state

Dear Editor,

What kind of person would sign their name to a bomb destined to kill people? Especially a public official? On TV?

What kind of official would sue another state via amicus curiae to force another state to allow boys and men into girls locker rooms and restrooms?

There are enough problems to be addressed in Pennsylvania that the person referred to – the governor of Pennsylvania — should be addressing.

Such as — Pennsylvania has the fourth highest suicide rate in the U.S., the eighth highest rate of overdoses, crime increase by 40% under his watch.

He was one of the biggest enforcers of covid shutdowns resulting in the loss of many local businesses.

He continues to curtail the biggest economic driver of Pennsylvania (and the modern world) – oil and gas — thereby crippling the economy.

What official would sue the nuns of the Little Sisters of the Poor? The nuns were in court defending their religious right to not administer abortion drugs.

What kind of official would betray parents’ right to choose the best education for their children by vetoing education choice legislation?

He also forced children to wear masks when all healthy children were not susceptible to COVID. Recent studies show major setbacks for children shutdown and masked.

He was the only governor to institute, on his authority, a “Voter Motor” program. The governor’s directive to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and the Department of State to allow automatic voter registration when applying for drivers licenses “disenfranchises the General Assembly from exercising its constitutional prerogative to make laws,” according to House Republican Leader Bryan Cutler (R-Lancaster).

Pennsylvania has a chance to set itself on the right track, reject such policies espoused by the Democratic Party and elect leaders who work for the best interests of Pennsylvanians.

Selective memory

Dear Editor,

Gov. Josh Shapiro appeared on Fox News and told host Neil Cavuto that America cannot risk returning to the chaos of a Donald Trump White House. Of course, as a Harris surrogate, Shapiro is obligated to misrepresent the Trump years.

Shapiro is easily countered by, among others, retired Gen. Jack Keane, retired Lt. Gen. Keith Kellogg and military historian Victor Davis Hanson, Ph.D.

In 2020, Biden condemned longtime ally Saudi Arabia as a “pariah.” After inauguration, the Biden-Harris team took the murderous Houthis off the U.S. Terror Watch List. The Houthis promptly began attacking commercial shipping in the Red Sea. This continues.

Biden-Harris killed off Trump’s “Abraham Accords,” a blueprint for moderate Arab nations to seek detente with Israel and unite against Iranian threats. They also urged Iran to re-enter a deal that dropped sanctions against the terrorist theocracy. So Iran recouped about $100 billion in profits and $6 billion in hostage ransoms. Of course, Iran promptly sent billions to its anti-Western proxies: Hamas, Hezbollah and the Houthis. Iran began partnering with China and Russia.

In the Trump years, sanctions kept Iran far more limited.

Biden-Harris restored millions to the West Bank and Gaza. Under Hamas control, such funds could be used to fund attacking Israel. They urged Israel to respond “‘proportionally” in their justifiable self-defense. Sensing ‘daylight’ between the White House and Netanyahu, Iran was likely emboldened even more.

No, governor. Trump has not been the architect of chaos. The Middle East was far calmer in his term.

Biden-Harris are responsible for the current chaos. This doesn’t even cover their coziness with Volodymyr Zelensky.
