Caring ways

Dear Editor,

This is a public “thank you” to the Warren Manor Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center, to the doctor, nurses, aides, therapist, cleaners, maintenance, office, and kitchen staff.

I know that health care facilities get bad comments. I’ve made them myself and yes I heard a number of times, “Get me out of here, I hate this place.”

My dear husband was one of them. It can be excused; many are there for long periods of time.

My husband has been in the hospital and rehab for over five months. It has not been easy for either of us. And he still has a ways to go to get his life back but he is home now.

There have been many blessings along the way.

We have met some of the hardest working, compassionate, and caring employees at Warren Manor. It is not just a job to many. They truly care for their patients. It is hard work and not always pleasant.

I wish I could list all their names but I don’t want to miss someone. You know who you are.

Northwest Pennsylvania and southwestern New York, you have a health care gem in Warren Manor.

Savings from closings

Dear Editor,

Let’s go back at least 40 to 50 years ago. Every small town had one or more major industries. In Warren County it could have been manufacturing, lumber processing, leather tanning, oil business or other major employers. And every town with these major employers was pretty much self sufficient. Every town at least one restaurant, one barber or beauty shop, grocery store, auto shop, some retail stores and a post office. And almost all the residents of these towns worked at one of the major employers or shops. So you could go for weeks or even months without leaving your town.

Then all of these major employers dried up, went out of business or moved away. And the roads got better and vehicles got better. So people took jobs at the next town which had more employment opportunities. And then they shopped in the larger towns. So gradually all the stores and small shops in the small towns closed up.

Now everyone has to go to the larger towns for everything. Food, gas, hair cuts, clothing, hardware, car repair etc. The only business left in the small towns is the post office.

Why? Because government can’t change. They just keep paying huge sums to rent buildings for post offices, pay utilities, pay for lawn and parking maintenance. And keep raising the prices of postage to pay for it all.

Just in Warren County alone they could close at least five or six post offices and deliver from the larger ones. Now consider there are 65 counties in Pennsylvania that are probably in the same situation. That is possibly over 300 post offices that could be closed in the state alone.

Now multiply the savings by 50 states. That is possibly 15,000 that could be closed. They could save so much money that the prices of stamps could be cut in half or more. Bring this up to your representatives.

Life and death

Dear Editor,

This letter is in regard to abortion.

It is an embryo.

It is a fetus.

It is a baby at all stages.

The man and woman and the doctor should choose life.

As Saint Mother Teresa said about her work in India; a mother might give up her baby, but she would never kill it.

As for incest and rape. Both are traumatic experiences for a woman. My opinion is that abortion should be allowed in these cases.

I do not want politicians making health decisions, whether it’s abortion or anything else.

Mary Leo,

Warren
