Woe in political world

Dear Editor,

A specific word used by our Lord Jesus is appropraite to certain political and dogmatic individuals today, and that is “Woe.”

In the Gospel of Luke 11:42-46 our Lord said: “Woe to you Pharisees!” Further, He said the same thing to the scholars of the Jewish law. He critcized both of them for their political, unjust burdens, and lack of compassion they imposed on their people for their selfish benefit.

Fast forward to todays’ political climate:

¯ Woe to you Donald J. Trump for trying to destroy our Democracy with lies.

¯ Woe to you Trump for putting Vice President Mike Pence’s life at risk for not supporting your re-election whim.

¯ Woe to you associates of Trump who continue to give him comfort and aid with his lies.

¯ Woe to you insurrection cowards who stormed our Capitol.

¯ Woe to certain Senators and Congress representatives who defend Trump’s lies.

¯ Woe to you MAGA supporters of Trump who relish falsehoods rather than the facts and truth.

¯ Woe to newscasters and journalists who mislead the public on behalf of Trump.

¯ Woe to elected officials who want to put a burden on, or restrict our voting rights, for their personal political benefit.

¯ Woe to any citizen who refuses to condemn the threat to our precious Democracy by being silent.

¯ Woe to any religious leader who does not support our people in the face of many political burdens, personally and collectively, as did our Lord throughout His ministry.

Finally, “It is hardly too strong to say that the Constitution was made to guard the people against the dangers of good intentions. There are men in all ages who mean to govern well, but they mean to govern. They promise to be good masters, but they mean to be masters.” –Daniel Webster.

Fortunately, Mr. Trump failed to be the master that Webster warned us about.

M.J. Shanshala,

Warren
