Losing our religion

Dear Editor,

As one ages, they gain the opportunity to look back and see how the effects of world events, politics, elections and court rulings have influenced us. I was born at the end of World War II to parents of the “Greatest Generation” to quote Tom Brokaw.

In 1963 there were two major events, I graduated high school and the Supreme Court threw God out of the public schools. It only took a mere 10 years for the next major court decision when they legalized murdering of un-born children. I mention these two events because they brought about an acceleration of our nation abandoning the Biblical principles we were founded on. Then in 2015 same-sex marriage was legalized in all 50 states.

There was a point in his term(s) where a former chief executive had declared we were no longer a Christian nation. Was he right or wrong?

In the 117th Congress in the House of Representatives there 435 members; 370 (85.4%) listed as Christian faith, 25 (5.8%) list as Jewish faith.

In the Senate there are 100 members; 82 (83.7%) listed as Christian faith, 8 (8.2%) listed as Jewish faith. I list the Jewish Faith because of its Biblical foundation.

Now, according to the 2020 census 69% of the population profess to be Christian and 1.9% of the Jewish Faith.

Was our former chief executive right or wrong when he said, “We were no longer a Christian Nation?” Looking at it one might say both. Our population and our leadership, both have a large majority that proclaims their faith in the Holy Bible (Word of God). Yet looking at the percentage of them that vote in contradiction (against) God’s word and what they profess to believe in. Remember, Jesus said, “for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.”

The Apostle James said, “Be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.” Yet many of these professing believers of Biblical faith tend to use the Bible as a smorgasbord, taking only the parts they want.

Remember what Jesus said, “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.”

In my lifetime I have not only seen many falling away from the church. But also I’ve seen many of our public servants like Judas Iscariot betray their oath'(s) which they sworn to, (while holding their hand on a Bible) only to gain their 30 pieces of silver. (So very sad)

May the power of the Holy Spirit bring a Great Awakening to our nation?
