Bolster our borders

Dear Editor,

Extensive attention to the events of Jan. 6 and COVID have allowed under-reporting of President Joe Biden’s border disaster. It’s still there!

Of course, Jan. 6 was disgraceful. So were, among other events, 100 nights of rioting in Portland. The left says less about that as there’s no connection to Trump.

Advocates of loose borders include certain naive clergy, the Poor People’s Campaign and left-leaning officials. They ignore the dangers, such borders present to citizens and legal migrants.

A pastor in ‘Sojourner’ newsletter foolishly equates strong borders with “white supremacy.” Others justify lax borders by pointing out that the Holy Family were sojourners in Egypt to protect baby Jesus from Herod’s treachery.

But the Holy Family was innocent. Not all migrants are. And there were only three border crossings in 2021 were estimated at nearly 2 million. The large number of “got-aways” is uncertain.

Many migrants are decent. But some are drug traffickers, human traffickers, MS-13 members, Central American fugitives and Middle Easterners on the terror “watch list.” Large numbers, especially “got-aways,” are likely carrying COVID. The aforementioned are a danger, especially with lax borders. Recent fentanyl traffic is frightening. Even if all migrants were decent, numbers must be controlled. It’s reckless to overload schools and communities. Some were attracted by Biden’s favoring Medicare for illegals. He sure is generous with taxpayer dollars.

The logical solutions are unlikely without leaders who put America first. They would include completing the border wall. Entry to our nation should be limited to legal entry points only. Those admitted must be thoroughly vetted and vaccinated. Biometric identification and assigned immigration court hearing are musts. If the hearing is skipped, ICE needs to pursue and deport the offender.Any illegal crossing should result in immediate deportation and a two year wait to legally apply.

Some media outlets are dishonest. Border patrol agents on horseback were holding reins, not whips.

Strong borders ultimately protect innocent migrants, citizens and American sovereignty.
