Uncivil America

Dear Editor,

Due to recent events and news stories, it’s time to vent.

If anyone in this country doesn’t think we’re already fighting a civil war, they are sadly incredibly naive. We currently have elected officials that have said they will not ever agree with anything the other party has to say or tried to do. And when someone in their own party does agree with the other party to compromise on something that may be for the betterment of the country they represent, they start screaming that the person needs to be voted out because they dared to agree with “the other side.”

If our entire Congress was made up of people like AOC, Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar, Marjorie Taylor-Greene, Matt Gaetz, and Lauren Boebert, nothing would ever get accomplished because they would simply spend all of their time screaming about how stupid the others are.

Unfortunately, this has carried over to the general population. Nobody seems to be able to have an intelligent discussion anymore about differing opinions and beliefs. he prevailing attitude seems to be “your opinion isn’t the same as mine so you should just go eat crap and die.” Everyone seems to think that their opinion is the only opinion. I have seen friendships dissolve over this recently because people just won’t tolerate someone with a different point of view.

I’m so glad that we still have a few reasonable politicians like Joe Manchin and Liz Cheney that are willing to say when something from their own party is a bad idea.

Unfortunately, they are being vilified by their own parties because apparently, everyone is supposed to be in lockstep with their own party. This is not what made this country great. The exchange of ideas and doing things for the country, not party, are what made this country great.

One more opinion. Back in World War II, this entire country hated Hitler and everything he and the Nazis stood for. Currently, most of the far-right are screaming that the radical Democrats are trying to ruin this country. Do I think the current administration is the solution to our problems?

Absolutely not. But if you believe the Democrats are like the Nazis, I urge you to please go back and research how Hitler came to power. It was all through legal means by getting the Nazi party in places of power to eventually give Hitler the power he wanted.

If you look at what Trump is currently trying to do with the people he is trying to get elected at various levels of government, he is following the Nazi playbook line by line.

He is not interested in being the President of this country, he wants to be the dictator of this country. That should be frightening to everybody.
