Minimum still too small
Dear Editor,
There are several good reasons to raise the minimum wage to $16 per hour!
It would decrease the number of people living in poverty. It would increase the number of people employed and decrease the number relying on Government assistance. It would improve the economy, giving more people buying power. It would improve the economy, giving more people buying power. It would increase the tax base.
Most importantly, it is the right thing to do based on history and the cost of living. In 1970 the minimum wage was $1.60 per hour. In the past 50 years the cost of living has increased more than tenfold.
All the arguments against the increase in 1970 didn’t materialize, and all those same arguments don’t hold water today!
