A worthy recipient

Dear Editor,

First, let me say that I’m a firm believer that people have the right to spend their money any way they want. Having said that, I looked over the “Warren Gives” data, online for 2020.

There were (18) Volunteer Fire Departments listed among the recipients. In total, those 18 Volunteer Fire Department, combined, received (8%) of all the final funds. For a perspective, the “Top 10 Organizations” receiving funds got (42%) of the funds – and there wasn’t a single Volunteer Fire Department among them. There isn’t even a single Volunteer Fire Department among the “top 20” receiving funds. So what? You can give where you want – and that’s absolutely true.

I, personally, never needed the Volunteer Fire Department for years on end. Then, one night the rains came as hard as I’d ever seen and completely flooded our street with a foot of standing water. We were totally flooded in our home. I called our Volunteer Fire Department and they came in minutes, bringing several men and pumping equipment. I can’t put into words the relief I felt and how great those guys were.

We often don’t need our Volunteer Fire Department but, when we do, they’re a group you can depend on. Whether you’ve been flooded, your house or an adjacent house is on fire or a serious debilitating illness has all of a sudden crept into your life – rest assured they’ll be there.
