‘United We Stand, Divided We Fall’

Dear Editor,

I have never been so worried about our nation as I have been these past weeks, not only because of the coronavirus, but also because of the division our country seems to be experiencing since Donald Trump was elected president. I believe that everyone has a right to his or her opinion and their right to express it; but in certain situations, we need to put our prejudice aside and stand united as a country (and give our full support to President Trump).

I have to say that I am saddened by the blind hatred that many in this country have toward our duly-elected president. Promoting this hatred is one of the columnists who posts editorials in this newspaper, Kathleen Parker. It seems this columnist never misses an opportunity to express her feelings about our president (as she did in her column in our Warren newspaper on April 28th of this year). Read her article and you can almost feel the hatred she must feel for the president. After reading her lengthy editorial, I felt compelled to defend our president by writing the following letter to Ms. Parker below:

“AN OPEN LETTER TO KATHLEEN PARKER;

“Many times, I have wanted to respond to your articles, but have restrained myself until today when I read your latest column in our local newspaper. I, for one, am more than annoyed by your sarcastic comments included in the anti-Trump editorials you print quite frequently. I admit our President is ‘unconventional’ and unlike most of our past presidents; but he is doing a great job with our economy and is getting us through this coronavirus step by step.

“I do admit, President Trump’s talk on national television regarding disinfectants was bad. I believe he was musing out loud about ways to kill the virus without reviewing in his mind, what he actually wanted to say; and how it would be interpreted. In other words, I believe he meant to say: ‘Take some of the ingredients that have anti-virus capabilities; and make them into a medicine that was safe for human consumption or injection.’ Unfortunately the words and his meaning of them came out wrong. How many really believe that he was advocating drinking poison? Our president has the weight of the nation squarely on his shoulders; and the fact that he made such a statement without thinking it through should be forgiven.

“Why don’t you try turning your hatred of President Trump into compassion for the weight of our nation that is squarely on his shoulders? I believe that God is on the side of our president; and Mr. Trump is my hero as well, as he is proving to be the most fearlessly pro-life president in history. To me, when God is on our side, who can be against us? How about you, Kathleen? Your scathing articles against our president promote more division in our country than unity. What our country needs is to put aside our petty differences and to work together in love and forgiveness for the good of our nation.”

Sincerely,

Mary Rose Farr,

Warren
