‘Manifest stupidity’

Dear Editor,

Since the mandatory closing of non-essential businesses, I have had time to view the daily briefing from the White House on the status of the pandemic, COVID-19, hosted by our esteemed leader. He fashions himself as a mythical hero, particularly adept at saving our health and our economy.

Today’s episode of the ongoing saga was an example of manifest stupidity. Our esteemed leader called to the podium, a representative from the Department of Homeland Security, to explain testing being done on the effects of heat, sunlight, and humidity on the virus. The esteemed leader returned to the podium, and turned to Dr. Brix, who is an expert immunologist, advising the Coronavirus Task Force and suggested she look into this idea. There was no audible response from her, which was not surprising, knowing what happens to those who disagree with the esteem leader. I am not a medical doctor or an epidemiologist, but common sense tells me their use on the body would be worse than the disease.

I do have an idea for our want to be hero, offer up your body for exposure to ultraviolet light, your lungs to isopropyl alcohol spray, and exposure to high heat and humidity. I, you are correct, you will go down in history as the equal to Washington, Lincoln, Jefferson, and T. Roosevelt. You may even find your way to Mount Rushmore.

Additionally, we were blessed with the “wisdom” of Mitch McConnell, the senate majority leader from Kentucky. He suggested that states in financial trouble due to the COVID-19 pandemic file for bankruptcy. In his view, the various economic stimulus bills were nothing less than a “blue states” bailout. I am neither a physiologist nor a psychiatrist, but in my opinion, he may be exhibiting signs of senility.

Very truly yours,

Bernard Hessley,

Warren
