Closing libraries

Dear Editor,

Closing libraries across the Commonwealth with NO ADVANCE WARNING is absolutely wrong. There are counties where it is reasonable, but all counties effective immediately? No, no, no.

Schools will be closed for two weeks. Fine. Entertainment venues will be closed. Fine. Libraries closed without any notice. No, no, no.

People will be home for more extended periods than usual and perhaps with more individuals sharing living quarters than usual. No access to library books, music, videos, and more? The pseudo or real quarantine situations will bring on a need for home-based entertainment. That’s something that public libraries can provide.

Please, please, please give Pennsylvania residents at least a day before shuttering their public libraries. Don’t eliminate, without warning, a free source for materials that can help us maintain emotional health during a period of uncertainty that will affect everyone.

Please.

Pat Evans,

Warren
